Founding Fathers Getting a Bad Rap on Slavery

I'm reading a number of Tea Party leaders feel the history books are making our founding fathers look bad on the slavery issue? We need to discuss.

I guess it depends on who you ask and how much research you've done...

"Maafa 21 moves from distortion to outright deception in its treatment of Gunnar Myrdal, a Nobel Prize-winning economist who, with his wife, Alva Myrdal, championed family planning and pioneered Sweden’s social democracy. In the film, Connie Eller, who is identified only as a “St. Louis community organizer,” but who is actually the founder of Missouri Blacks For Life, discusses Myrdal’s 1944 book An American Dilemma: The Negro Problem and Modern Democracy. Myrdal, says Eller, “believed that not only could blacks not help themselves, he felt that nobody could help them, and the only solution in his eyes was to get rid of them.”

This is an outrageous distortion. Myrdal was initially commissioned to undertake a large-scale study of race in America by the Carnegie Corporation, whose leaders wanted the fresh eyes of a foreigner. He was horrified by segregation and by the conditions African Americans were forced to endure. He concluded that racism was a “problem in the heart of the American,” one that pitted the American creed of freedom and equality against American reality. An American Dilemma was an anti-racist opus; it was cited in the Brown v. the Board of Education decision; one of Myrdal’s collaborators on the project was Ralph Bunche, who later worked closely with Martin Luther King Jr. in the Civil Rights Movement. Maafa 21 quotes descriptions of the mindsets of white racists in a way that implies that they’re Myrdal’s own views. It’s an ugly trick, and a mendacious one."

That said I am not a supporter of Abortion but it is a choice that we should be smart enough to make or not make and women from all walks of life have abortions ..It is an ugly part of society and to be honest I don't see ot ending in the near future..Mist women 've talked to will give up sex before they give up the right to have abortions...That is sad isn't it...

But what does this have to do you the topic of the forum...??

On the topic of history, here is a piece of history that is not just history, but a current manifestation of history sparked by the end to slavery.

Jerry,

We, Black America, need to make both major party's, all politicians, and every dog catcher compete for our vote.  The Dems have promised the world for more than forty years and have not been force to perform.  The Repubs have chosen to ignore us because we don't cast our voice for them.  Therefore we need to swim out of the garbage that both party's are propagating and consider our cultural needs; and differences.

We need to return to a culture of faith and integrity.  We need to reestablish our family as our core [husband, wife, rugrats all in one house].  Commitment to personal, private industry and entrepeneurship [particularly with the African continent].  Commitment to education and personal preparation [re-focus on the math and sciences].  We need to love each other and shed the sentiment so accurately described in the Willie Lynch Letter.

I love my people and hope we aspire for more.  Everyday; in every way.

Peace,

Martin Luther King, Jr. wrote in his autobiography:

"The Republican Party geared its appeal and program to racism, reaction, and extremism."

That was his description of the 1964 Republican National Convention. He also referred to the Republican convention as "the frenzied wedding at the Cow Palace of the KKK with the radical right."

Trying to change textbooks to make slavery look like a "work release" program is something that should concern us...Let's deal with the racism of today...why is that so hard...??

Yesterday we received the final brief from Obama's attorneys on the lawsuit we filed against Obama and the Democratic Party for racism Case No C-11-1503 MJP. And it is hard to believe that in 2011, there is a political party that believes so strongly in the racist practices of Jim Crow and slavery, that they will hire one of the most prestigious law firms in the country to defend those practices rather than to simply apologize. In several of our briefs we provided facts showing that Democrats and their leaders:

Literally cut blacks up in pieces
Burned them alive
Beat them to death
Burn down black communities
Bombed black churches
Lynched thousands of blacks
Proudly endorsed the institution of slavery to enslave millions of blacks
Called Republicans “Nigger Lovers”
Call the original Republican Party “Black Republicans”
Killed blacks outside the voting booth who voted Republican
Killed white teachers who taught black students
Burned down black schools
Proudly called themselves “the Party of White Supremacy"
Stacked the United Supreme Court with Pro-slavery and racist  judges
Sponsored racist legislation from Jim Crow Laws to Black Codes and Fugitive Slave Laws
Supported Judge John Ferguson in the case of “Plessy v Ferguson” & opposed Brown v. Board of Education
Praised the Dred Scott Decision that classified blacks as “property”
Fought the integration of Public Schools
Forced blacks to sit in the back of the bus and in the balcony of movie theatres
Killed little black girls in their Sunday School classes
Hung blacks without a trial
Decapitated blacks and formed terrorist organization like the Ku Klux Klan
Denied blacks employment
Force them to go to the backs of resturants to be served
Made all types of racist statements including the following by Lyndon Johnson

“These Negroes, they're getting pretty uppity these days and that's a problem for us since they got something now that they never had before, the political pull to back up their uppityness. Now wee got to do something about this, we've got to give them a little something, just enough to quiet them down and not enough to make a difference. For if ewe don't move at all, then their allies will line up against us and there'll be no way to stopping them, we will lose the filibuster and there'll be no way of putting a brake on all sorts of wild legislation. It'll be Reconstruction all over again....”

After all of this, they have the audacity ask blacks for their vote, then they hire the most powerful attorneys in the country so they will never have to apologize to African Americans and the whites that support African Americans. Never before in the history of the world has any group ever done this. Germany apologized to Jews, Congress apologized to Japanese, and South Africa apologized, but the Democratic Party feel that is was their right to treat blacks as they did and that blacks do not deserve an apology. This is why I am spending every dime I have -  to finance and sponsor this lawsuit.  They have to be insane!  This precisely why their name ends with "rats."  --  Past this one to everyone on your e-mail list and facebook.

That all sounds good but in the real world you may have to make a choice and you will have to honest about making that choice...This is why over 90% of the Black vote goes to democrats...Because the GOP does not have anything to offer the Black community....Tell me....what conservative candidate for anything understands the plight of Black America...or the plight of the middle class...be honest about it...

Thomas,

If this is a question for an honest dialogue then I would say Allen West.  His position is now and has always been about personal responsibility and integrity.  Non-candidate, past public servants, Colin Powell, Condoleeza Rice, etc., stand for self-reliance and perseverance.  More importantly, we need to focus on where we as Black America is today.  What do we need in our communities?  What are our strengths?  What are our weaknesses and how do we overcome them?  We have, rightly, been describing our history and American history for more than a century in an attempt to figure out how we ended up in this morass.  In my humble opinion, we need to focus on the future and turning the corner on a very troubled past.  That being the case, I don't much care where our forw-fathers were accurately described.

How our current fathers are described is more important to me.

Thomas,

That's a fair request.  How about we, the Black Community, developing our own empowerment zones.  In other words, we designate what area have been traditional Black communities/business districts, set limits for how people can participate in those business areas, and create jobs that strengthen those zones.  Then we demand our elected representative create tax incentives and local development to bolster these zones.  We are not empowered inspite of racism; but because of a racist past.

We should denounce any public image or public figure who supposedly represents the Black men in our communities in a derogatory or defamatory manner.  We are living down to the expectation of the images in our community.  We need to excise those images and those persons that perpetuate those thuggish, prison-aspiring depictions.

Consider what these two simple changes would do.  Black men, exhibiting integrity; controlling our own destiny through entrepeneurship and self-reliance.

Just a thought,

Grant

Martin Luther King, Jr. wrote in his autobiography:

Thomas,

You and I have the power.  Ironically, we need to make the demand of every human being that claims to represent our Black Community.  As an example, I am current supporting Pasadena City Councilman, Chris Holden for California State Legislature.  He is a Democrat, but has a strong foundation in the Black Community and is conservative in his beliefs.  I will be supporting his candidacy until his policies drifts into the liberal crap that hurts Black America.

The nice part is that he is aware that I would be the worst enemy to have if he makes that drift.  Locally, I can garner a lot of support and opposition [if necessary].  We need to demand the same things from EVERY politician.  Maxine Waters is a great example of a self-absorbed politician that has forgotten her own communities.  Watts and South LA currently have a 43% unemployment rate for our young adults.  She needs to be smacked down and out office.

Thomas, we simply need to assert our authority.

Mr. Dodd,

I've been in my profession for 24 years and have a lot of contact with our community.  The greatest perpetrator of eugenics against Black America is Black America.  That is accurate history, but we hold our future in our own hands.

Stop the violence.
