Individual Development Accounts (IDAs) are matched savings accounts that enable low-income American families to save, build assets, and enter the financial mainstream. IDAs reward the monthly savings of working-poor families who are building towards purchasing an asset - most commonly buying their first home, paying for post-secondary education, or starting a small business. IDAs make it possible for low-income families to build the financial assets they need to achieve the American Dream.

The match incentive - similar to an employer match for 401(k) contributions - is provided through a variety of government and private sector sources. Organizations that operate IDA programs often couple the match incentive with financial literacy education, training to purchase their asset, and case management.

This site exists to provide basic information on

starting and operating an IDA program,
resources and support services available to IDA practitioners,
federal policy that will take IDAs to scale,
new research on IDAs and asset building, and
events for the entire field.
As an IDA practitioner, you can use these resources to exchange information and ideas about how to best structure IDA initiatives and policies that enable low-income families and individuals to save, build wealth, and contribute to the nation's continued economic growth.

While this site is targeted to the immediate needs of IDA practitioners, it can also be a useful resource for other community economic development professionals, accountholders, financial institution representatives, federal and state policy makers, legislative staff, social policy researchers, press members, and others who share a commitment to expanding opportunities for low-income families to build financial and human capital.

Dear RBE Members,

Join us in the RBE Forum as we host “a meeting of the minds” this week. We are asking RBE members to look at the community, then come on the forum, and share ideas for empowering the community. No matter if, it is education, finances, and politics, whatever it may be, we would like to hear from you.

Thank You
I think that churches should set up educational access centers (EAC) in their churches in impoverished neighborhoods. Local businesses will donate computers and other supplies and benefit from a tax write-off. With these EAC’s, kids can frequent the establishment, use the computers, read books, be tutored, watch documentaries and so forth. Through education such kids have a better chance at escaping poverty by realizing and being able to tackle opportunities.
This has probably been said time and time again, but a large part of the black community's problem is the sad state of our black families. In my professional life I see so many members of our community shuffled through the criminal justice system and their stories almost always sound the same. Poor economic circumstance, inferior education, but most importantly, a horrible home life.

For those of us who grew up poor, we learned that money isn't everything. Education is key to mobility, but we must have a family that will drive us when necessary, and encourage us at all times. I come across both men and women who are still reeling from the absence of a parent, mostly a father. The long term rammifications are devastating.

We need to change the cultural mindset of our community. We need to return to the concept of the nuclear family. Marriage needs to be the norm again. Children need to have the confidence that comes from knowing that Mom and Dad are committed to each other, and to you. I believe that if we start promoting these values, the next generation of black children will have the tools to compete confidently with their counterparts of any race.
EXPOSE BLACK GENOCIDE FROM ABORTION :

Please check out Maafa21 and consider showing it for Black History Month:

Maafa21 meticulously chronicles the links from slavery to colonization to Darwin to Eugenics. Maafa 21 shows, without exception, how African-Americans are the targets of the social elite. You’ll learn that civil rights leaders in the 1960’s gave a clear warning that population control was a tool of Black Genocide. Maafa 21 chronicles the story of an African American woman who was sterilized at the age of 14, a riveting testimony. Photos, newspaper clippings, documentation, and direct quotes make Maafa 21 highly credible.

In the few months since Maafa21 has been released, there have been two showings of Maafa21 to the Congressional Black Caucus.

Shocking fact:

In a recent New York Times interview , Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg told Emily Bazelon that,"....I had thought that at the time Roe was decided, there was concern about population growth and particularly growth in populations that we don’t want to have too many of"

Maafa21 shows just what "populations" Justice Ginsburg was talking about:
