Permalink Reply by jack thomas on January 30, 2013 at 11:07am Not sure if The pipeline is the answer...
Proponents of the dangerous Keystone XL project claim that construction of the 1700-mile tar sands pipeline from Canada to Texas will create tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of much-needed jobs across the country. “Jobs for the 99%!” proclaims a website funded by the American Petroleum Institute (API). The Wall Street Journal promises “13,000 union jobs.” On the House floor today, Rep. Alan Nunnelee (R-MS) claimed the pipeline will create “20,000 high-wage construction jobs.” Rep. John Shimkus (R-IL) says the pipeline will “create 14,600 jobs in Illinois.” The US Chamber of Commerce claims the project will create “more than 250,000 permanent jobs.” “U.S. jobs supported by Canadian oil sands development could grow from 21,000 jobs today to 465,000 jobs by 2035,” said API Executive Vice President Marty Durbin.
Accepting these figures, reporters like CNN’s Steve Hargreaves, NPR’s Ari Shapiro, and the New York Times’ Kirk Johnson have portrayed the battle over the tar sands pipeline as one of economic benefits versus environmental fears.
However, these tremendous-seeming jobs claims are based entirely on a report by the Perryman Group, commissioned by the pipeline’s owner TransCanada, whose results have been described as “dead wrong” and “meaningless” by Council on Foreign Relations fellow Michael Levi and environmental economist Andrew Leach, neither of whom oppose the construction of the pipeline.
The only independent analysis conducted of the American job-creation potential of the Keystone XL pipeline finds that between 500 and 1400 temporary construction jobs will be created, with a negative long-term economic impact as gas prices rise in the Midwest and environmental costs are borne....

Matter of fact, we are in the second qtr of a contracted growth, so officially we are back in recession. If the president were smart he'd have that pipeline finished and get Americans back to work.
Permalink Reply by Karl Smith on January 30, 2013 at 12:18pm Hi Jack. I want to try to answer your questions because you bring up some very good ones.
Jack ---
Why are the poorest states in the country "red states"...why are the lowest IQ scores in "red states"...Why are the most successful Black people democrats...???..Since most Black peple work for a living why do you assume that most Black people wait for a welfare check...??..
I need some clarification from you on the following Jack:
1.( Why are the poorest states in the country "red states") Define poor and the break down of the ethnic groups both socially and economically that define "poor". Would also be nice for you to provide facts on the % of high school graduates and college graduates (male and female) by ethnic groups. This should show a clear reason why blacks either should or should not support the Democratic party.
2. (why are the lowest IQ scores in "red states") Same as question 1.
3. (Why are the most successful Black people democrats...??? Define successful. I define success as not just my own but that of my kids or the lives of others impacted by my beliefs and decisions. I will share more on this later but I want your definition for your original question please. 4. (.Since most Black peple work for a living why do you assume that most Black people wait for a welfare check...??..) I will answer this question as written: I will pay you the compliment of being blunt - I don't think any of us believe that MOST Black people or waiting for a welfare check but social programs are very popular for those believing they are entitled to it. Now, this is not to confuse SSI for the poor, SSDI disabled tax paying American worker, VA Disability or Compensation, Wic, Medicaid or Medicare for the needy as a social program because they were earned by the working taxpayer (with the exception of 2). For example; there will be a big difference in size of payments for SSDI for those that paid much into the tax system verses those that could not or did not even though they both qualify for it if needed. I'm sure we will disagree on who the needy are. Greed seem to have taken over as the new need. The idea that the aforementioned programs are part of or should be construed as reparation for slavery or disenfranchisement is the driving force to the abuses of these programs as an "entitlement". This idea is and has been exploited by the democratic party for at least 52 years with great success for them. I had a person tell me recently that they were blessed because the government GAVE them SSDI. I corrected them and pointed out that they should not ignore the 26 years worked prior to becoming disabled. Taxes from the previous 40 quarters or 10 years determined and eventually got approved to benefits from what was paid into the system. The Government cannot give to anyone without taking from another. 4. (You say you are in the education field so are concerned that your job may be cut if the GOP has it's way..???..They want to cut pell grants , teachers and funding for education but you whine about Obama...??.. I don't understand the first part of this question. (They want to cut pell grants , teachers and funding for education but you whine about Obama...??..). Dropout rates at 75% at the high-school level, the ability to continue to get student loans and pell grants because you qualify even though there are no consequences to abuse and with over 50% of 4th grades being functionally illiterate seems to strongly suggest these benefits need reform. The Democratic platform is to NOT tying consequences to many forms of abuses like pell grants, student loans or illegally migrating to America because it provides a strong voting base. This practice by design will automatically cause many to shun one group and embrace the other. Would your opinion of these issues be the same if the current administration was a white democrat? Which platform do you think would be the most popular? 5. (Here's a bonus questions...Since the GOP admitted to trying to suppress vote..why should Black voters vote for them...??) Do you really want to debate this topic? Would you answer my questions about the same for the Democratic Party? 6. (Note:..Colin Powell is a republican as well as over 40% of Black republicans who voted for Obama...Are they also not welcome to a site that should be about the concerns Black people...???....grow up little girl...) I will answer this question based on why I am a life long Republican. 1. I do believe the Bible to be our guide book for living and interacting with others. 2. I do not believe abortion is what God would want from folks that claim to be his people. 3. I do not believe that the needs and desire of man is above what God has for us and expect from his people. 4. I have been a life long conservative because it is closer than the Democratic Party to what I believe in. Conservatives tend to not mock God or create diversions or other ways to trivialize God. I don't need to agree with everything under a platform in order to be happy. However, I will NEVER support a party that believe prayer in schools (but not the hall of congress or the senate) is unfair, publicly show emotions over the death of a selected few but ignore the 55 million killed over your platform core belief. My intense readings does not contradict my belief in supporting one platform over another and I must acknowledge that I personally know many Democrats that were encourage to read more thus helping them to come in out of the darkness and into the light and rejoin the Republican Party.

1..Poor states are those with the lowest median Income , high unemplopyment , poverty rate , and of course education results...Combine these factors and the "poorest" states are red states...Now the ethnic breakdown really doesn't matter since living in these states is hard on but a very few and if Black peope are living in worst condition in red states than they should make sure more Black people are registered to vote those conservatives out of office.....Red states also receive more money from the feds...Do you remember the spike in food stamp usage that occurred after the Bush administration? Take a look at a map of food stamp usage and comment below. In many Republican states (and a few Democrat led), food stamp usage is as much as 1/5th of the population. What does this say about the success of Republicans policies in helping the poor and middle class improve their lives?

2. You have to ask the education personel in those states that question....but the I.Q. scores speak for themselves...
3. Wharever definition you want to use...The most successful Black people are democrats..
4. The image of Black people that white republicans and some Black republicans have is that of a person on welfare..That was the image that Diana Jenkins put out there so that's why the question was asked..We cannot breed self-hatred and expect to prosper as a people and as you notice she didn't have the guts to answer it...The question had nothing to do with SSI or Disability..
5. 6. Yes , I really want to debate this topic that's why I asked it so why can't you answer..???

Democrats are not angels but right now that are much easier to deal with than the white supremacist controlled GOP...And how many of these so-called democrats rejoin the GOP...The GOP has not had a good number of Black members since the early 60s....That's almost 50 years ago so most Black democrats were never republicans....I've said this many , many times...when the GOP stops the racism they will get some support in the Black community...As long as they keep trying to steal elections , elect white supremacists , suppress the minority vote , cater to the rich , wage war against women , they will not get any respect in the Black community..and for good reason...
note: Abortion and gay marriage are both choices that people across the isle both make ...Racism is not a choice for those that are victims of racism but it is for the racist so when is the GOP going to make the correct choice...???...

Permalink Reply by Karl Smith on January 31, 2013 at 10:53am Hey Jack, okay, you win, you've convenience me that you need just a little more attention so here goes.
I think the unpopular responses you keep getting on this site have more to do with you than you would care to admit. Now, for the record, we know your guy won re-election and you have much to dance about and many things to go shopping for now that the rich is paying for it all. Now for the serious. You really want to know what we are doing in preparation for the mid term elections? Which lawmaker may be in trouble? Will the Democrats loose control of the Senate? Will the Republicans win more seats in the House? Will all of President Obama's true agenda get through (other than Executive Order)? Will Democrats up for re-election actually stand with a Lame Duck President that is only popular in the minds of Liberals while facing Republicans next year? I will use one of your popular phrases when you don't want to be honest and admit you have just ended up wearing your butt for a hat "it depends on who you ask". Since you really are a fan of phrases let quote one of your favorite presidents for black people John Kennedy
This country is comprised of many different political factions with the two dominate party's being the Republican and Democrats so, when you keep asking what have your party done for you over the last 13 years doesn't the individuals that make up that party represent the country? In your mind? You mock folks that refuse to engage you with your own rules and only refer to talking points, articles and video's that you believe best support your position and best put President Obama in the most positive light despite the contrary.
Your position on your beliefs are strong but I think you are confusing this site with your mirror. Your image reflects what you are and you may really appreciate you, your positions, ideas and laughable interpersonal skills. So, next time you want to refer to a woman as a little girl, I suggest you look at yourself and find the true definition of little.
Permalink Reply by jack thomas on January 31, 2013 at 1:02pm Nice attempt at a white flag son now let's get to some facts....something that you are definitely afraid of...
First of all I call it like I see it and that's why I called Diana a little girl..She sounds like an immature brat so I called her out on it...She can dish it out by calling Obama a communist but can't take it when I ask her to explain her views.....Don't blame me for telling it like it is..In other words get over it...
Second..It's interesting that once again you are trying your best to ignore the truth..I don't ask you anything about the Senate , the House , or a lame duck president so why are you trying to chage the subject...That's the same thing Martin tried and of course it didn't work..He still didn't answer the questions ...I guess the truth really hard for some Black republicans
Third...I keep saying that I merely state facts and I use those facts to back up what I ask and what I say ..I also have the maturity and courage to answer a question...Being a man about these issues is not a problem for those who are honest and use a little common sense....
Now I am also a fair man and I will try again...
Is your "thinking" aware that the economy performs better under democratic presidents...??
White supremacists used some tea party rallies as a recruiting place and some white supremacists were invited to speak at a CPAC event that also had several republican presidental candidates speaking..There was also white supremacists that ran for office as a republicans...Why don't Black conservatives address this and how do you expect the Black community to respect you if you don't address it...??
Since the GOP admitted to trying to suppress vote..why should Black voters vote for them...??
Note:..Colin Powell is a republican as well as over 40% of Black republicans who voted for Obama...Are they also not welcome to a site that should be about the concerns Black people..???
Now if you can't bring yourself to answer on this site because you may lose face I somewhat understand...But the next time you look in the mirror maybe you'll summon the courage ....
Here are some quotes that can teach you a few things...
Martin Luther King -
"The Republican Party geared its appeal and program to racism, reaction, and extremism."
That was his description of the 1964 Republican National Convention. He also
referred to the Republican convention as "the frenzied wedding at the Cow
Palace of the KKK with the radical right."
Steve Biko -
"The most potent weapon on the hands of the oppressor is the mind of the oppressed"
Malcom X -
You're not to be so blind with patriotism that you can't face reality. Wrong is wrong, no matter who does it or say it"
Colin Powell -
The party has a “dark vein of intolerance” running through it and “if they don’t change” along with America’s changing demographics, “they are going to be in trouble.”....The GOP “still looks down on minorities”
Ken Barnes a Black Republican activist from Sacramento who served on the California Republican Party Executive Committee -
"Last year alone, I donated more than 400 hours of my time to the Republican Party and made financial contributions to a number of Republican candidates. As of late, however, when I look at myself in the mirror there is one question which perplexes me: Can I, in good conscience, remain affiliated with an organization whose message purveyors of racism and bigotry find attractive?
Over the past two years, we have seen Republicans use long-held racist imagery in portrayals of Obama. The president has been depicted as a communist witch doctor, a man inclined to plant watermelons on the White House lawn, and we watched in disbelief as his face was placed on an “Obama Buck Food Stamp” along with stereotyped pictures of fried chicken, barbecue ribs, Kool-Aid and the obligatory watermelon.
What does any of this have to do with public policy or conservative values? Here is a man who excelled academically at the finest schools in the world, has a wonderful in-tact family, worked hard and rose to become president of the United States. Yet in spite of his accomplishments, the president is still labeled an illegitimate, socialist, African witch doctor and has his face superimposed on a chimpanzee.."
---------
Thus ended the lesson...
