I think it is time to build our party. I have spoken to a lot of young men and women about the Republican Party and most of them think we (The GOP) is a big JOKE. They also felt that we don't care about Black people because nothing was ever said about Tryvon Martin, etc. One young Lady even brought up the Terri Shibow (sp) case that even had the President of the United States helping decide if she lives or dies. Was it because she was white?
I know their thinking is wrong but the party does not show nor do we speak out about things when it comes to our Community or Black folks. . We need to start now setting goals for our Party, and reaching out to those groups of people who feel we have lost touch with them. . Train young people how to run for office, how to build businesses, the value of an education and understanding the party as a whole. One young lady said to me that the GOP only care about RICH folks not the people in the middle. They were very upset to think that Herman Cain was the best the GOP had to offer the country to representing US. The thinking from these High School young men and women were that he was a embarrassment to most Black-African-Americans and he was some one that whites laughed at. He made all of us look like fools.
I asked these young men and women to take a long look at the GOP and what we stand for. Take a look at the history of the Party and see where we came from. One question was asked that I could not answer was, where are we going? It took me a while to give him an answer. Then I knew it is time we held our own convention and set our own agenda for Black Republicans.
It's time, If we are to move our party forward it is time. I told the group as I was leaving that the only way to become successful in life is "you must first learn to move yourself out of your own way."
It is time for a National Convention for the Black Republican Party.

Perry,
I agree, but while I DO agree that Herman Cain wasn't a "serious" Presidental Candidate neither was Al Sharpton. And FOX NEWS and conservative talk radio has been covering the Martin case just like other media outlets have, so I'm not sure what these black people are referring to.
I mentioned in the other thread that black people are literally brainwashed, period. We are talking about SERIOUS issues in this country, $16 trillion in debt that's about to lead to massive taxes and inflation, along with foreign threats that call need for defense that WE HAVE NO MONEY TO PAY FOR. Then you have Social Security and Gov. Healthcare programs that will bankrupt us in 15 years, along with an economy shifting from an Industrial to an Information economy leaving 3-4 million OPEN positions in the market that can't find skilled workers to fill them. And MUST I state that 50% of black students don't graduate high school in 2012? The damn bachelor's degree is starting to become inferior in the marketplace, where the hell does a person go without even a high school dipolma? Almost 80% of black households are single parent, and the vast majority of black women today have never been married (I read something close to 60% or something), which all symbolize the breakdown of the black family.
We have serious damn problems in this country, and the issue is that we can't come together as black people and have a SERIOUS conversation because ANYTHING (and I do mean ANYTHING) that's not "liberal," "progressive," or "democratic" viewpoints are immediately (and i do mean immediately) casted out as white washed negro speaking that "Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh lingo". They won't even LISTEN to what you have to say, if you don't say we are all victims and need government programs, your mic is shut off.
The fact of the matter is that the SAME issues with the black community find its roots in the problems with America as a whole right now, liberalism is destroying this country. The idea that individualism and personal responsibility for your financing future, investments, HEALTH, family, education, career advancements, CHILDREN, etc. are no longer YOUR responsiblity but the responsiblity of EVERYBODY ELSE (especially government) is what a growing number of people in AMERICA period believe. And when America gets a cold, the black community get the flu. The black community is just an example of the overall picture of a growing (massively growing) group of Americans. I mentioned in the other thread, this crap started to grow in the 1970s and came into manifestation in the 1980s.

I'm willing to go to bat with any group of black or WHITE conversatives looking to get this message out. But my question remains the same, what do we do? AMERICA as a whole is brainwashed coming from the left with this, the MEDIA has given this left wing movement the symbol of credibility, all of the RAPPERS, MUSICANS, ETC. all stamp it with credibility. We are going against THE DAMN WORLD with this, and my generation (Generation X) is more influenced by the media than anything else. So how do we change this? In my opinion it starts with taking back the White House and Senate, then taking BACK the media, then taking BACK the colleges and universities, then TAKING BACK the protests in this country.
About 20% - 30% of African Americans are conservative in some fashion, they just are afraid to speak out on those beliefs because their families, barbers, "cousins," and every other black person will label them as Uncle Ruckus and they won't be invited back to the family BBQs. Isn't that something? A successful, educated and strong black man, who is there for his family and a good husband/father, is banned from the BBQ because he listens to quote, unquote "racist Glenn Beck." But Tyrone who's unemployed and broke, with 10 felonies, 10 baby mommas and 10 kids in 10 different cities that he hasn't spoken to in 10 years, is perfectly FINE to attend the family BBQ and is loved by every member of the family. And unfortunately these black people don't see ANY problem with this situation.
That goes to show you that our values are in the wrong place, which is ONE OF THE REASONS why our community is so screwed.

WHO ARE WE WHEN WE ARE BLACK REPUBLICANS?
There’s an old saying “If you always do what you always done. You’ll always get the same old stuff “
I’ve seen a number of posts and a heard a number of radio comments that suggest that the Republican Party needs to change. I believe that despite the successes around the country in the past election, Republicans failed to have a platform and a communications plan to convince the people who they are, how they represent the people, and what WE stand for.
The question is, what if he is? How often did he reach out to any minority community and seek understanding and support of those communities. When will the Republican Party start reaching out to the minority communities and ask what can we do to help you help yourself.
Well as a Republican, who is Black-African-American, who look at our party of Lincoln and ask the people who are running for office, how many minorities did he/she have on staff in power positions? If you look at the dialog of all the candidates when they speak look at who and what stands behind them?
I have to believe that the Republican Party has a place and a relevance to minorities. Though Republicans ignore the research, minorities have a strong leaning toward conservative values. However, most have an aversion to extremism, particularly when the views are presented without ever mentioning the benefit to anyone who looks like them.
As I have look at this blog and wonder what in the hell are we as Black Republicans doing? Are we just talking loud and saying nothing? We seem to want to make things happen with the same old thinking and recycle the same old people to bring the party anew, focusing on exclusion rather than inclusion. As my son would say “It’s not happening” We talk about being a Regan Republican what in the hell does that mean? He was not for Blacks folks. We should be looking at the Jack Kemp type of republican he was for the idea of if you wanted to do something then do it and move yourself out of your own way.
Most of our Republican groups seems to only want to do is have dinners, collect funds (for what I don’t know) maybe they should start a church building fund. Then they go and have a fundraiser and pat the same old people on the back for doing the same old thing…..nothing.
We as a party talk about keeping government out of our homes. That is consistent with what Lincoln said when he described the role of government. “The legitimate object of government, is to do for a community of people, whatever they need to have done, but can not do, at all, or can not, so well do, for themselves -- in their separate, and individual capacities.” So, I question elected officials who spend their time trying to restrict the rights of people. I am particularly concerned about any efforts that require citizens to bear a burden of proof when it comes to voting. The most basic thing we can do quite well for ourselves.
The Wing nuts have no place in leadership of our party. I, like many other citizens, want to know what the extremists mean when they say, “Let’s take back our country.” I ask from whom and from what?
I think the message should be inclusive, short, and sweet:
I would like to see the party return to the old values where you can succeed in this country by preparing yourself. We will offer you a hand up and not a hand out. I want to see this country returned to a government of the people, by the people for the people and with the people.
“If you always do what you always done. You’ll always get the same old stuff “

Interesting post...That's why I am now an Independent voter. I could not answer a lot of the questions about the GOP especially the racism , the stolen elections of 2000 and 2004 , Katrina , Iraq , 911 etc , etc.. If some Black republicans feel that the GOP does not care about Black people then why should Black people care about republicans...???..Right now if you look at the GOP it does not stand for reaching out to the Black community.. Maybe it's time for a third party ...

You need to stop overracting and wake up.. Glenn Beck is a racist....Do you understand that..??..Therefore if you are going to listen to a racist then you believe in some way what that racist says...That's why YOU were told not to attend a BBQ....Or are you just making stuff up...???....again

"And MUST I state that 50% of black students don't graduate high school in 2012?" - your quote
Like I've said many times...It depends on who you ask ....and how much research you've done...
"While a recent study by the Manhattan Institute for Policy Research (MIPR) claimed that only 50 percent of Black and Latino students in the United States complete high school with a diploma, the Economic Policy Institute (EPI) said that it was “inaccurate” because MIPR used “seriously flawed data and methodology.”
In a 99-page report, “Rethinking High School Graduation Rates and Trend,” released late last month, the Washington-based EPI revealed that about 75 percent of Blacks and Latino high school students actually receive diplomas nationwide.
“Our research finds no suggestion of a horrifyingly low graduation rate among Blacks, Hispanics and other minority groups in the country,” Lawrence Mishel, EPI president and co-author of the study, said in a national telephone conference with reporters. “In fact, we have found out that Black-White graduation gap has shrunk significantly over the last 40 years.”
He said that the MIPR data, generated by its senior fellow Jay P. Greene and former Urban Institute research associate Christopher B. Swanson, “reflect an incorrect characterization of the rate of high school graduation,” because they mainly relied on enrollment data reported by school districts and collected by the states and the federal government.
“There are two fundamental problems with Greene’s graduation rate research,” Mishel added. “First, he ignored the other data available on high school completion that are far more reliable, far more consistent with each other, and show significantly higher graduation rates than the school enrollment data. And second, Greene’s computations show an artificially low graduation rate because he does not fully correct for grade retention, especially among minorities, in 9th and 10th Grade.”
By the way , when you go to Black people with that "Rush-Glenn" type of misinformation they will not respect you...
Ok lets go to the BBQ and sit down and talk (plan) a National Black Agenda. opps Did I say PLAN? That is the one thing we have not done is plan our agenda. It seems that we are always taking up some one eleses agenda that do not have our future in place. It seems to me that the "LEADERS" that we are supporting Both Black and White have what I call "Paper or Plastic thinking" Same groceries just a different bag.
Think about it if we as "STRONG Black-African-Americans" start now setting our agenda for the up coming elections and beyond, move our thinking from being a minority but Black African Americans and reach out to those of us who well are at the BBQ and those who are not and look for common ground could we them build up what ever Party we want? Could we them build up our communities? Could we them save us from us? Without a plan we will always be like ALICE IN Wonderland. The road we take will not matter without a plan. One thing I would like ot see is a thing that I call
Ethnic Economic Centers More on this on my next blog.
Perry and John,
This is the direction that our discussion MUST take, so I hope my 2 cents are welcomed. "Separate has never been equal". The GOP is not inviting to Black America because it is not offering anything tasty. The GOP is not offering anything tasty, because that don't know our cultural tastes. Our taste for economic propserity and independence. Our taste for social togetherness and familial growth. Our taste for faith and moral integrity. The GOP has never really understood our taste for America....Black America.
We need to step into the GOP with a force and direction that defines Black America and why the GOP needs our efforts and support. Black American Economic Centers and Community Empowerment Zones should be our first item on our agenda. If we develop the Black economy, Black America begins creating its own wealth and independence. Our own jobs and industry. Its easier for Black families to stay together. Conservative priniciples are our trademark so lets get back to exemplifying them.
John....perfect thread.

It is time.
The GOP convention is almost upon us and have we as Black African Americans are asked to come to the BBQ? It is time that we send a clear message to the GOP Board of Directors and TELL them that we need to have a meeting of the minds. We need to meet with the front runner and give our agenda to the PARTY. I am tried of sitting back and watching the same old white men tell our Party what to do and how to do it. It is time, that we as one group and one voice speak out and give a clear plan that will be inclusive and not exclusive of us. It is time that we stop back biting others in our party and start looking for those of us who want to bring about a difference. When I was growing up in the 60's there was a TV show called Julia. It was about a Black single mother raising her son on her one income that of a nurse. The one thing that I got from that show was if you had closed your eyes and listen to the show was that you could not tell if the star of the show was white or black. Our concerns were not a part of the show. I have listen to others that are running for office and if you close your eyes where is the economic values for our communities, Where are the educational Values for our communities? Where are the "DO FOR SELF" values for our communities>
We spend so much talk on being a Reagan Republican that we lost sight of what the Party really stand for. We want so badly to be the Black that everybody likes that we have lost the most important value of all...............true to thy self.
I look at this page and ask what does the name mean...............Republican for Black Empowerment what does that meaning? What is the plan? How do we set goals to reach empowerment? Who holds the key to the door?
I would like to ask this group one thing....why don't we ask for a meeting with the front runner of the GOP and l;ay out our plan for inclusions.

Think about it if we had our own convention where we ask those Black folks to come and join us for our BBQ to let the Republican Party that we will not be pushed to the back of the line nor will we sit by the door any longer. We want a seat at the table. so we may share our BBQ dinner with others.

Permalink Reply by jack thomas on March 31, 2012 at 11:37pm Why be concerned with whether the GOP "invites" us to anything...Later for the GOP..Do we really need "help" from the GOP to grow a better Black community..??.They have not been doing anything for us so what makes you think they are going to start now...And when we do get our community striving again what can the GOP offer "us"..??..We need to deal with whomever has our interest at that time..If it's the GOP ...fine..If its the Democrats...fine..If it's an Independent party ...fine....But we should not bow and scrap for anybody's approval of "our" support for them...

Perry,
Okay. When and where? Lets pick a time and place. I say Pasadena, California before the June Primary. We need to do it before the state conventions that will occur near the end of summer and before the election. We should demand media attention and party participation. Perry, this forum is perfect to set an agenda because it is small and manageable.
You layed out some basic areas that we need to address. Education, economics, career and life opportunities, and quality of life issues [Black-on-Black Crime, etc.]. We have some basic needs so let's hold this forum's feet to the fire to move. All we need is money and leadership participation.
Let find out the best way to contact and engage this forum's leadership.
