Tea Parties: "What Is It All About?... Racism?"

Kenneth Durden: "What Is It All About? Racism?"

The libertarian-conservative blogger, on the march: "So a million people go and march on Washington DC on September 12. Why? Are these just a million racists who can't stomach seeing a black man in the White House? A simple-minded fool would think so. I'm sure such a fool would also call me, a black man who opposes Obama, a sellout or self-hater. Such is foolishness.

Anyone with a functioning mind and an eye on politics over the past few years would know that conservatives have been angry a long time. Conservatives were angry with George W. Bush and the Republicans and refused to support them in 2006. This is when Queen Nancy assumed the post of House Speaker. Short memory is one thing. Willful ignorance another. These angry conservatives gave Bush a pass in 2004 in the interests of national security. They also listened to his pledge to do something about one of the worst programs ever established--forced Socialist Insecurity. Of course the Republicans couldn't even support Social Security reform and it failed. That's just one more reason they were tossed out in 2006. Many of these same angry conservatives refused to support John McCain. They remembered McCain's consistent snubbing of Republican leadership. They resented McCain for trying to be every Democrats favorite Republican. This is why there was no real energy in the Republican base for McCain and it was easy for Obama to win on silly promises of CHANGE."

He continues: "So let's take these same people, these angry conservatives. They've been frustrated with out-of-control government for at least 6 years. Now they see the most far-left government our country has ever had. They hear a president say that he wants to fundamentally change America. Many of these conservatives are finally starting to realize exactly what CHANGE would mean. Now that they see it, they are outraged. They are willing to mobilize in a way that conservatives never have. The sleeping giant awakes."

It seems to escape many that one can disagree with the President without being offended by the color of his skin. There are whites on both sides of the political aisle who harbor deep seated racist views. But then there are also those within our own community who are also racists.

It just seems the left and their allies in the media have really grasped on this notion that Americans are consumed with Obama's race. We have legitimate policy differences. We are concerned about the directon of our nation. We are also angry about the past failures of the Republican Party. America is a Conservative country. The evidence is there for those who wish to see it.
I thank a lot of Blacks do not know the history behind the parties so it causes a lot of confusion between the parties.
I think a lot of Blacks saw a lot of whites on t.v and assume this was a racist protest.

I understand your anger, but I think to fail to explain the Tea Party in a cogent manner.  They stand on the foundation of this country and the US Constitution.  Black America has contributed to the foundation as substantively as any other race, creed, or community.  More importantly, Black America's condition has been the great instigation for changing [amending] the Constitution.  The Tea Party acknowledges these facts and supports the strength of an honest, thriving Black America.  Not some street-thug image of Black America, but the common Black family trying to live a life of faith, love, career, and personal integrity.  As a Black man....this is what I see in the Tea Party.

You are living in an Archie Bunker dream world...The tea party was a racist haven for white supremacist groups...did you know that.??..And some of the tea party speakers even have ties to these groups..I just don't understand the NEED for some Black conservatives to defend racism like it's their last meal....can you explain that...

Maybe somebody can explain this...

  • Tom Tancredo, the one time GOP Congressman, presidential candidate spoke at a Tea Party rally.. Tancredo announced that the president had won his office because “we do not have a civics, literacy test before people can vote in this country.”

People who could not spell the word vote or say it in English put a committed socialist ideologue in the White House — name is Barack Hussein Obama.”

Or this

  • The Council of Conservative Citizens, a St. Louis-based group that promotes the preservation of the white race, has sponsored its own tea parties in some Southern states.

The council’s website has referred to blacks as “a retrograde species of humanity” and said non-white immigration would turn the country into a “slimy brown mass of glop.”

  • Gordon Baum, the group’s founder, told The Star that the council encourages members to participate in tea parties.

He described the tea party rallies as “mainly a white thing, because there’s not a whole lot of blacks that participate, and the ones that do get to be speakers.”

  • That leads some groups into a bizarre hypersensitivity, he said.

“They have black speakers, and sometimes when they can’t get one lined up, they just get some poor devil that’s on their side, black guy, in the audience and drag him up on stage,” he said.

Some other white supremacy groups also see tea parties as recruiting grounds.

  • Those who monitor hate groups are worried about racism in the tea party.

“There are probably close to a couple thousand of these local tea party chapters now,” said Devin Burghart, vice president of the Institute for Research and Education on Human Rights, which is finalizing a report on tea parties.

“A number of these groups have been either thoroughly infiltrated by more hard-core folks, or at least those more hard-core folks are allowed to swim in that same ocean.”

To say that the tea party is not racist is stupid at best....
