"Want to act like Niggers, go back to Paulsboro" - GOP Assembly Candidate

RBE Forum Topic: How to Deal with Racism in both Parties?

Dear RBE Members,

This week has seen a flurry of accusations of racism in the Republican Party. Early in the week, reports from bloggers and The Daily Beast showed that a candidate for the YR's (Audra Shay (who won today) was embroiled in a racist scandal via facebook. The YR's held there convention today and the candidate embroiled in the scandal won today.

The Daily Beast Blog- Audra Shay, accused of endorsing racism on Facebook, became head of the Young Republicans on Saturday.

Moreover, just recently Lee Lucas, NJ GOP Assembly Candidate said this to blacks in his neighborhood. "If You Want To Act Like Niggers, Go Back To Paulsboro". The Newly-elected Gloucester County GOP Chairman Bill Fey and Assembly Majority Leader Alex DeCroce (R-Parsippany) have called on Lucas to drop out of the race amidst other allegations of racially insensitive remarks.

Do not expect Lucas to leave the race anytime soon.

So with all these events how do we as black Republicans deal with these and many other incidents. Of course Democrats love this stuff because it help create a false image of our party, and allows folks to ignore there long past of racial brutality. It also makes it harder for Republicans to do outreach when this is the image of our Party.

So the RBE forum Topic for this week is How to Deal with Racism in both Parties?

I see the accusations. Where is the evidence? Am I now supposed to go search Facebook or will you give us the links?

Maybe now we can stop looking through rose-colored glasses. I commend the moderator for shining light on this conundrum of the two parties and where we fit. Liberalism and Conservatism cannot and should not be viewed from the same prospective, as our white counterparts, our experiences, psychology, and spirituality are vastly different. The Honorable Marcus Gravey asked, “What do we have to be conservative about?” Now some 140 years of struggle since the end of our enslavement, I think we have something to say to answer this question. I suggest we review both the political and social writings of black leaders of the past millennium as a compass to find our voice within the party and influence black people collectively.
I read those articles and their comments, although not all comments on the last one. I couldn't take the rhetoric and venom any longer. To say the least they were very disturbing. As citizens of this country we have lost, and are losing, our freedoms with every act of a no thinking power-grabbing congress and some people only want to spew superficial slurs and gossip.

Educating ourselves on what government has done to this nation is vital if we want to keep what rights we have now. The call for urgency for global climate and health care bills should be a warning that a 'too big of government' has not properly considered all long range implications on our society, or worst, chooses to ignore them.

One need not look far in today's news with the hearing of Sotomayor to know there is still trouble in America concerning racism. With the attempt to answer for her racially charged comments by ignoring what she really meant and instead saying that her record speaks for itself should tell us that "we the people" need to learn the history of all political parties and allow their historical records to speak for themselves. The record of the Republican party should speak volumes concerning abolishing racism and slavery and protecting individual liberties. The Democratic party records of the New Deal should speak volumes concerning enslavement and the results of a power grabbing government.

Just my two cents.
Say What? Are you giving us the ole soft shoe???

My reply touched on racism in the political parties. That's different from liberalism and conservatism you commented on. They're in both parties also. You ask, "what do we have to be conservative about?" I ask "what do we have to be liberal about?"

John T. Miller - in light of last weeks racial dual that became a trio with Pres. Obama stepping into the racial profiling charge from Prof. Gates against Cambridge Policemen, do you think the president gave us the ole soft shoe in his half-hearted apology to the parties involved and to diffuse the media blitz? Will inviting the parties to the White House to share a few beers while talking about racism in America going to solve it? Even Gates is saying it was all blown out of proportion. It was racial profiling and racism or it wasn't. The one who screamed the loudest is now soft-shoeing it! My point in my previous comments about racism is that it is nothing but the "same song, different verse" with the democrats if anyone thinks this will open up dialogue and solve the problem. It is nothing more than race baiting and he is using it to garner up support from blacks and latinos for this massive mistake of a health care plan he and congress wants to push on us to take away more of our freedom. I hope people would see through this smokescreen and not get distracted from reading the health care bill. People would be surpised and frightened to discover all that's in it. The democratic party didn't want Bush to rush into war but they want Obama to rush this through immediately.
I would like to read what's on the minds of others, also.
Some people are racist regardless of what skin tone they are. We cannot group "white" people or the "GOP" into a group that is racist because of a few idiots. The remarks by fellow Republicans are awful. During my bloggin I come across white and black people who comment how they feel. They are both racist. To me there are two reasons racism still exists:

1) Some people are just racist.

2) Some people are looking for racism.

Notice I did not single out a particular group as the racist or the receiver of racism.

As it relates to the parties. History shows us who created the KKK but the Dems were forgiven????????
...And so you are telling me what? That it doesn't or hadn't work within our own party (race baiting and using it to garner up support), look my point is this you and me are not looked at any different across the aisles of congress or the local mall. We need to stop belly aching about who did what to who, and start leveling the field on opportunities with our own people i.e. you own a business? Did you interview any black men or women, if not, why not? Have you visited the High School ( assuming you went to a public school) you graduated from so many years ago? What is the condition of the building, is the library up to date and operational? What are you going to do about it and are you going to mobilize other to do their part without goverment bailouts or handouts. Now as far as poor Henry (Skip) Gates, how quick he found out that a PhD is not a license to pop off to cops.... Dumb move, yep on his part.

"We need to stop belly aching about who did what to who, and start leveling the field on opportunities with our own people"

That was exactly my point about dealing with racism in the parties. I don't know if I like the tone of you assuming I am not doing my part. :-) But I think you are asking if I am trying to help other blacks see the difference between conservatism and liberalism, and the answer is "Yes, I am!". The questions you raised are based on, in my view, conservatism and liberalism. And as I stated before, they are different from the topic of racism the moderator brought up.
