There was a time when Blacks were staunch members of the Republican Party, until the "New Deal" of the 1930s made them weak and dependent on the government to take of them. What do you think should be done to educate liberal Blacks about the GOP?

Natalie,
This is an easy one. The GOP needs to simply "Invite Black America" back to the fold. Sponsor Jazz Concerts, hold rallies focusing on the Black community, sponsor legislation for Empowerment Zones in Black communities, push for jobs, etc. The problems is not the availability of tools. The problem is the lack in interest touse them.
If I were given assets and 6 months for implementation, I could make a substantive change even here in California.

Ron,
Whats more important than learning it, it exercising it. We depend to frequently on other to exercise the right embodied in the US Constitution and State constitutions. Our rights to liberty and freedom, life, and property an inalienable and we need to demand them from EVERY official that we have contact with.
Persons from other nations risk their lives to come to America and enjoy something that is at our very fingertips. More over, they utilizing them much more effectively to strengthen their families, businesses, and lifestyles. All we need to do is reach down within ourselves and live the tenets that are in our constitutions; at law and individually.
Great idea my Brotha,

Permalink Reply by Ron Mosby on March 20, 2012 at 3:27pm Grant, you bring up another excellent point. Foreigners who desire to become naturalized citizens must learn the Constitution as a requisite to their citizenship, yet those indigenous to this country can live in it completely ignorant of their rights and responsibilities.
Ron,
"Responsibilities", the shortcomings of Black America. If we spent half the time we spend whining about oppression and injustice, and teach, preach, and require personal responsibility in just our Black Men, our communities would be powerful. I'm not a self-hater, but a cooperator. I love my Brotha's but we need to dawn our Big Boy draws and do the right thing.

Permalink Reply by Ron Mosby on March 22, 2012 at 8:38am Jack, I don't believe the GOP is racist. The GOP believes that each person has the right to be successful if they work hard, and the government should not hinder that. Their message is "pull yourself up and be successful!" The problem is African Americans have interpreted that as "I got mine, you have to get yours," and Democrats have played on that by convincing African Americans that they cannot do it alone, and they need the government to help them. It is a new form of institutionalized slavery.
Permalink Reply by jack thomas on March 22, 2012 at 8:59am Then how do you explain the acts of racism that I posted...???..And if the GOP thinks that each person has the right to be successful why are they trying to destroy the middle class...???..Most African-Americaqns work for a living...we work hard everyday despite the racism in the job market and in government,,Black people are not "looking" for any type of handout..That's the steroetype that you the GOP has driven into your brain...Democrats , who are by no means perfect , at least offer the Black community a seat at the table...What has the GOP done for the Black community..??..How many Blacks do they "support" in congress....And as quiet as it's kept...Most successful Black people are democrats....While most successful Black republican "work" for the republican party....Can you explain that..??

It is interesting that you perceive that the Republicans are trying to destroy the middle class, when the Democrats are telling you overtly that is what they are trying to do. They are suggesting that the rich pay "their fair share." Just how much is that? A true fair share would be the same percentage for all. No matter how much a person makes, each person should pay the same percentage in taxes. That is a just tax. Capitalism was never designed to make sure that everyone "succeeds." Your comment actually confirms what I stated.
Permalink Reply by jack thomas on March 22, 2012 at 10:13am .Sorry I thought I posted this in this forum.....The GOP has done everything in their power to insult the middle class and the minority communities...Look the "stolelection of 2000" where thousands of Black voters were denied the right to ...look Katrina where rerpublican officials applauded the demise of the 9th ward...look at the tea party madness that served as a recruiting station for white supramacist groups...Listen to the silence of Black conservatives when acts of racism at performed...Look at the lies about MLK being a republican...Look at the racist comments from Limpballs , Hannity , Beck , Breitbrat and other rignt wong racist that some Black conservatives defend...And look at the two pitiful Black GOP members of congress that have no voice , no power and no respect from the Black community...Now if you were running for president and you are Black do you honestly think you have a chance of winning...???...Ask Herman Cain and Allen Keyes...they were treated like "rent-a-knee-grows"...not serious candidates......let's be honest about this...
Now there is no way that you can have a tax code where everybody pays the same percentage...However it is also insane to give a tax cut to the very rich and then cut certain programs that affect the middle and lower middle class..You said that the GOP believes that each person has the right to succeed so if they work and don't succeed where's the problem..??..Face ot the GOP is controlled by big corperations and these corperations are not concerned with the needs of Black poeple..That's not to say that the democrats are angels but until the GOP learns how to 'deal with " the minotities communities it will not have any support or any respect in thiose communities...

The 1983 book, Low Tax, Simple Tax, Flat Tax, which is the basis for all these proposals. Authors Robert Hall and Alvin Rabushka wrote that the flat tax "will be a tremendous boon to the economic elite" and that "it is an obvious mathematical law that lower taxes on the successful will have to be made up by higher taxes on average people."

Permalink Reply by Ron Mosby on March 22, 2012 at 11:11am Jack, I have a quick question. You probably live in a state that has a state sales tax. I know I do. Let's say that you and I are in your state, and purchase goods. You purchase $250 worth of goods, and I purchase the same goods, but I purchase $10,000 worth of goods. Should I pay more in sales tax because I purchased more?
