Okay I'm a republican and while I hear of the Republican past efforts for equality. What have they done lately?

Okay Patrick, what do you want today's Republican Party to do?  That particular question seems to have gotten in the way of progress for far too many black Americans.  Do we really need government to treat black people like helpless children; like we need more than other Americans; as if we need them to do something for us as if government is our parent?  Could it be that we might not have done enough for ourselves?  The majority of black voters voted for Democrats.  What are Democrats doing for black Americans these days?  Black people have been Democrats and voting Democrat for the last 50 to 60 years.  With the highest rate of unemployment; the highest rate of abortions; the highest rate of incarcerations; the highest rate of young male deaths; how is the Democratic Party working out for us?

I took the time to view some  Civil Right Movement documentaries. We had a RIGHT to expect equal protection under the law and legislation that would end discrimination.  The question should be is what are the legislative processes in place that benefits African Americans Today? For example President Johnson was the first President to announce the need for the end of Jim Crow and discrimination. We as Republicans always hype about helping ourselves yet we are not leading by example whereas the democrats are vocal in the efforts to help those whom society has forgotten. As a young republican I would like to see a work in progress on every level of government that speaks represents black men- the segment of society that seems to be written off. While I definitely can't imagine being a democrat I expect more out of my own party. I'm not interested in the ignorance being displayed by angry citizens who look more at Obama's Color than the content of his character. Hence as a republican we should for a segment of believers who hold our own community accountable for progress as well as the legislative bodies that be.....

With respect to government. Less is definitely more.

Patrick,

Had it not been for the Democrats and their creation of Jim Crow; Democrat President Johnson would never have had to try to speak against it.  Believe me, Johnson was a Democrat and that was not their desire to do anything REAL for a black; just ask Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  Most all of them Democrats fought vehemently against any rights for blacks; including President Johnson.  Anything he did was strictly for black votes.

I think it's high time for black men, women and children everywhere to begin to stand up for ourselves and not look to any political Party or politician to do things for us.  I have started a business if you would like to find out about it, I think it is high time we begin to own a piece of the pie and not just wait for others to own things to piece mill prosperity out to us.  We can HAVE just as any other American does.  We just need to stop feeling sorry for ourselves and get busy.

Geraldine, you are so right.  Blacks need to stand up for ourselves.  I would like to point out though to Patrick, there have been several black Republicans who have led by example.  Those are the ones called sell-outs or trying to be white.  There are a lot of examples.  Condolezza Rice, Clarence Thomas, Allen West, Colin Powell, Larry Elder,  etc...... It's a very long list and it's possible you have had those slurs laid on you.

Durrele,

God bless you!  It is always so great to get a positive response relative to a subject such as "Racism."  For me, it is a subject soooooooo over-worked, and has done an insurmountable amount of harm to Americans; especially those calling themselves, black.  We simply need to stop allowing sickos to define our lives by the sick labels they place upon us.  Believe me, I will not have it!  People must address me as Geraldine, and not as a black woman; otherwise, in my eyes and in my actions, I have absolutely nothing to say to that individual coming at me as though I am something other than human.  I simply do not allow it.  Also in my eyes, I am black, asian, hispanic, white, Indian, Caucasion, yellow, red; I am ALL of us!

Yes most people that I know are cautious of republicans and rightfully so.  My take is WE NEED AS MANY BLACK REPUBS IN CONGRESS AS POSSIBLE.  We also  have to pull ourselves up if we are to survive. This dependence on others mentality has totally robbed our community of it's creativity and ingenuity. While I definitely see color. I'm black and very proud of my heritage. Can't deny it!!!  I Won't forget our past struggles.  My HBCU education deems it necessary.

Most black people are cautious of Republicans because we have been taught the Republican Party is the Party of Slavery, and the Party of Racism.  Nothing could be further from the truth.  Yet, for more than Six decades, black people have been operating off of the lies we have been taught by the Democrat Party through their re-written history books in their public schools; etc.  The truth is, the Original Republican Party is the party of former slaves.  Many former slaves were the founders of the Republican Party; especially in the Southern States of the United States.

Blacks have been taught to be skeptical, fearful, angry at; cautious, suspicious of, hateful towards the Republican Party in order that American black people may never win their way back to their Republican Party roots; to their political heritage.

Today's Republican Party is not as strong as it has been and can be because too many of today's black Americans; descendants of slaves are solely dedicated to voting for and supporting the Democrat Party; the Party of the Ku Klux Klan; the originators of the Jim Crow; Segregation Laws; the party of divide and conquer of the American People through race, age, sex, etc.

America's problems have greatly surpassed the subject of race or Party.  However, America will remain in deep voo doo as long as Black people continue to be missing in action by being too beholden to the Democrat Party.  Our families will continue to suffer greatly as long as we continue to operate from lies about our Party which is the Republican Party.

Black people have even been taught to disregard or disrespect their fellow black American Leaders but only if they are Republicans like Colin Powell, Condoleezza Rice, Clarence Thomas, Herman Cain, Michael Steele, etc.  We have been taught to not be supportive of black leaders unless they are Democrats such as Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, James Clyborne, Maxine Waters, Shelia Jackson Lee, Charlie Rangle, etc.

Black slaves rose up to deliver themselves from slavery through starting their own political Party (the Republican Party), and in so doing, they also saved or preserved America.

Today's black people have the opportunity to help to save or preserve America again.  The only thing black people need to do today is STOP Voting and Supporting for the Democrats.  If there is anything else blacks will need to do it would be to practice voting for Republicans for a change.  In other words, black Americans need to practice going back to their political roots; to their political heritage which is the Republican Party.

Dear Mrs. Lewis:

I am in complete agreement with your propositions. Most black people  of any origin who live here in USA, wether

Afro-Americans, Haitian-Americans, Africans, Afro-Latinos, or any other Carabbeans do ot realize, how mentally and psycholgically manipulated they are from Democrats. This stems from the fact that most Blacks unfortunately do not know their history, particularly the historical relationship of Republican Party with the Afro community.

Since 1932 when President Roosevelt unfortunately introduce this " Wellfare System". Most Afros fail to consider that President Roosevelt has intelligently, subtlely pacify them for his party political advantage . If President Franklin Delano Roosevelt was such an apostle for the cause of Afro-community, why in the world did he choose and promote the nomination of a candidate that was a former KKK and integrate him to the US Supreme Court?. Second, if President Roosevelt, at that time a very popular President, sympathized so much with the black community, why has he not proceed for the opening of "University Education Doors" and vehemently promote the integration of Afros in every professional field, especially  in the Scientific environment, professions, which makes the power of USA, let Afros share the power of scientfic innovations, inventions so vital of USA economic power?. These are among many of important questions that must cross the spirit and minds of our common Afro populations.

Another problem to consider, is the hatred of Republicans. The Republicans I think are trying to approach those of the

Afro commnity, regardless of their origin, Carabbeans, Africa, Latin America. However, how can they succeed when

Afros remain with such an opinionated feeling and mind in imaging Republicans as racist. A systematic rejection

does not allow us to learn, to examine, and to be flexible such as to change our vision that what we tought was inconsistent. If I see you and systematically, initially project a hate for you, how in the world can I get to know you,  appreciate you, and learn from you as a person?. Such is the challenge of Black Republicans leaders must face to shed the light in a direction that turn the eyes of Afro population on the opposite side of the tunnel.

Finally, a by discussing and hearing the comments of many of the Afro community, I can easily sense their tendency to

deify a politician in the sense of such vindictiveness in their opinion on a party, which results to a mental, psychlogical

manipulation by the politician and party for which they adhere. I think this state of mind is to be eliminated, but unfortunately will not occur with facility. These are additional comments to support your propositions and views and to

confirm my agreement with you.

Best Regards

I disagree with you on this...Black people respect Black people that respect Black people..Now what does that mean..??..You can't say that Larry Elder , Thomas Sowell , Clarence Thomas ,  Herman Cain , Jesse Peterson care about Black people because each of guys DEFENED racism..Now I will give credit to Colin Powell and half credit to Micheal Steele. Poweel saw the lies and abuse by the Bush adminstration and got out of there. He also understood the dangers of having McCain and Palin in the white house
. McCain has a racist history and Palin is ...Palin..really no need to embellish about that idiot.... Micheal Steele will at least state the fact that the GOP has basicially ignored the Black communinty but when he apologized to Rush Limbaugh after calling Rush out for making racist comments he lost some points..

We also need to stop whining about the KKK , Jim Crow , and anything else that happened 50-60-100 years ago...Those same democrats went to the republican party during the southern strategy by Nixon and Robald "I support Aparttheid" Reagan so let's stop kidding ourselves. Our voting heritage should be based on current events not something that happened 50-60-100 years ago..Because if that's the attitude then we have to remember what Jackie Robinson and MLK said about the republican party in the 1960s..When I talk to Black people about republican candidates I am always asked "what has the GOP done for Black people in the last 50 years"...How many Black GOP governors..??..How many Black republicans in congress..??..Why did hundreds of Black people get denied the right to vote in Florida during the 2000 election...???....Why didn't Bush do more to help the Katrina victims..??..Why does the GOP congress say no to everything that Obama wants to do even if they agree that it will help the country..??..These are not myths or lies..These are facts that Black people know about and in all honesty have not gotten answers to from Black republicans..Why should we parrot the GOP line on anything that has to do with Black people ..It is hard to keep addressing abortion and gay marriage as the only real pillars of the GOP that Black people can relate to and even if they do , these are "choices" not laws that both republicans and democrats make everyday..We as Black republicans have to BE HONEST WITH BLACK  PEOPLE..We know that Dr King was not a republican...we know that the tea party is racist...we know that the republican leadership has ignored the Black community..we know all this and more so let's take the GOP to task as much as we take the democrats of 50-60-100 years ago to task...Then at least we will have respect in the Black community and the republican leadership will have to change the way they treat Black people...Let's try it...we have nothing to lose...

Ms Lewis...Did you read my post at all...??? ...The problem that I see with your view is that you are still in the 1800s...That Republican party does not exist..Now we have a racist organization that is more concerned with white supremacy then it is with Americans.. You failed to address any of the facts that I presented as you again failed to answer what the Republican party has done for Black people in the last 50 years..Here's a question that an Independent voter asked me...

"If a Black person experiences racism , name one Black conservative that will fight for their cause, especially if the racist act is performed by a white conservative".....

The only person I could come up with was Michael Steele when he spoke about the racist rants of Rush Limpballs...BUT ..then Steele made a public apology to Limpballs which in essence gave Rush a green light to make more racist statements under the "blessing" of Michael Steele...This is very frustrating for me as I try to promote the GOP in the Black community with a straight face.
