Black Republicans

On a Mission to Raise the Value of Black America's Political Capital

Just a word of thank you to the members who keep us posted on the political scene. The information is well received and sometimes invaluable. You never know which little kernel is going to turn out to be a valuable piece of information to one of the members. From time to time members have broached the subject of how to defend against attacks from some of our more liberal brothers and sisters.
I have always suggested just giving them the facts of what the policies of the Democratic Party have accomplished for us with 95% of the Black Vote and over 14% Black Employment. Let's not even talk about the Black Jail population. Anyway, I spent a fair amount of time today listening to the political pundits and listening to the community. The fact that Obama did not attend the NAACP meeting will come back to haunt Obama and the Democratic Party.
This event has given an audience to a segment of the Black Community that has already begun to question Black allegiance to that Party. This was just another indication of how theDemocratic Party has taken the Black vote for granted. I applaud Romney for his courage.

I don't believe the this will cost him.  My experience at the local level is that he has a base with an entitlement complex (shouldn't be a big surprise to anyone).  As long as he says he'll give them what they want -- and he's Black -- that's all they're looking for. Whether or not he delivers is inconsequetial -- unemployment rate doesn't matter, incarceration rate doesn't matter, lack of wealth doesn't matter, nothing that matters to most people matters to this group.  Unless the GOP has something in the works to give them as an "entitlement" for free, Romney will never make inroads.

Though it might seem intuitive -- to you and me -- that there should be a measurable segment of the Black Community that begins to question their allegiance to the party or that there will be some reaction to the Democratic Party taking the Black voter for granted, that is only wishful thinking (in my opinion).

Changing the minds of Black Americans and opening their minds to the political realities of their allegiance to the Democratic Party will take time. Americans generally take a short term view of time whereas other cultures look at time in hundreds and even thousands of years. Think of this as a process and not an event. Think of stages of enlightenment instead of an event. I can recall the stages of my own conversion which took about 10 years.

Both you make valid points. I agree with you both. I personally believe that GOP history will repeat itself.
